Alter amount of milk produced at certain times of the year by changing the calving pattern
Example: If a herd shifted 30% of its volume from April, May, June to August,September, October

Increase butterfat level of the herd from 3.8% to 4.0% per year

FEEDING
100 cow herd producing 500,000 litres.
Average concentrates fed 1.5 tonnes per cow @ £120 per tonne = £18,000 per year.
If fed more accurately, ie. Feeding according to production and reduce feed by 0.5k g per day per cow over a 200 day period
= Saving of £1,200 per year

CALVING INTERVAL
Each day of calving interval over 365 days = £3 per day per cow.
If you can reduce calving interval by 5 days from any level above 370 days = £300 per day improvement 5 days = £1,500 per year
